In the European capital closed the world famous center
contemporary art and alternative culture “Tacheles”
(Takheles). The struggle for its safety, stretching over
long years, was not crowned with success – on September 4, the building is still
sealed up.

Tacheles was housed in a former department store
erected in the Jewish quarter at the beginning of the 20th century, was
one of the most interesting sights of Berlin.

This center accommodated both exhibition halls and
art workshops. Here were held theatrical
productions, film screenings, sales of paintings and concerts. Here
Masters of the brush came from all over the world in order to live and create.

Berlin authorities sold the house in 1998 to the company
Fundus-Gruppe, intending to build office and residential buildings on this site
the premises. As a result, the company crashed, and the former department store
turned out to be in the possession of HSH Nordbank, which put forward demands for
his soon release.

And despite the fact that master artists throughout
significant time period held protests and
flash mobs, the owner of the building still evicted them.
