The issue of gays divided the Russians onconservatives and liberals

Thu, Nov 03 2016

While in many Western countries, active lobbying
gay rights have allowed them to significantly expand their rights
down to the possibility of entering into same-sex marriage and adoption
children – Russia will continue to stand on the positions of traditionalism,
legislating a ban even on gay parades.
And a hundred years ahead.

The editorial staff of the Internet portal “Women’s opinion” formulated four
simple questions to find out what the female part thinks about it
of society. Women were asked if they were ready following the example of Westerners.
countries: Question 1: Allow to carry out on the streets of your city
regular gay parades? Question 2: Allow official same-sex
marriage? Question 3: Allow same-sex adoption of children
families? Question 4: Replace the concepts in the official document flow
“mom” and “dad” in terms of “parent number 1” and “parent” number 2?

It was suggested to give answers to the answers, and summing up
Two interesting points can be noted in the discussion that flared up.

The first moment: Almost all survey participants gave
the same answer (either yes or no) to all four questions. it
shows that society in Russia is divided into two camps participants,
which are configured very categorically. Or considering that
homosexuals do not deserve any rights at all, or vice versa
arguing that they are entitled to all the rights of ordinary people including even
adoption and upbringing of (adoptive) children.

Moment Two: Camp Supporters of a Traditional Society
turned out to be more numerous (70% of respondents), but the camp
Gay equality supporters (30%) are much more assertive and noisy
defended his case. And this repeats the situation in society in
whole when the issue of the rights of sexual minorities is so
actively exaggerated in mass media, as if the number of homosexuals in
Russia has increased many times. However, in reality this is one of those
cases when the media becomes the mouthpiece
minorities in order to impose a certain point on most
view.

In the points of view expressed during the survey, there was also no
deficiency but in general they can be expressed through several answers
serving as generalizations.

Gay rights advocates cite as the main
argument: “If we live in a democratic society, then,
surely a person living in such a society will answer all
questions: “Yes.” Personally, as a psychologist, I can definitely say that
homosexuality is not contagious. And even same-sex parents
affect the child’s sexual orientation. There is a mass
scientific, medical and psychological literature proving
this!”

The most typical answer of supporters of a traditional society
looks like this: “I answered – NO. And even explained why. Let
love as they like, from time immemorial was this homosexuality, and nowhere
you can’t get him … He’s even in the animal world. But! Why is it
to advertise and exhibit in public? I don’t know, I’m old-fashioned and
probably not interesting, but it is better to advertise ordinary families,
“Dad + Mom + kids”, focus on long-term relationships, on
family values. And all sorts of “deviations” – yes, let them be,
it does not need to hide. But we do not arrange parades of people
suffering from Down syndrome and Autism. “

In general, in the discussion, gay rights advocates show themselves
radical liberals expressing not just indifferent, but even
negative attitude to the existing way of society and the institution
family and marriage, considering them a relic of the past and blaming supporters
traditional values in backwardness, old-fashionedness and narrow-mindedness.
In addition to this, they express a clearly negative attitude towards
Church and the Soviet period of history – believing them to be responsible for
“zombie” people “wrong backward ideas.” Wherein
speaking in support of everything “western” and in their opinion
“progressive”.

The defenders of the traditional family stand on conservative
positions, protecting the institution of the church and supporting many moments
peculiar to the Soviet period – considering them more suitable for
построения благополучного и здорового of society.

It is unlikely that this dispute will be over in the society in the near future
However, the severity of this discussion will largely depend on
in addition to which part of the society – conservative or liberal
will correlate itself power.
