Women who are married are less affected by partner violence.
alcohol or drug abuse and postpartum
depression than women who live with a roommate or not at all
have a partner.

”We first looked at the duration of extra-marital
living together and found that the shorter the cohabitation is, the more
the likelihood that women suffer from intimate violence
partner, alcoholism and drug addiction before, during and after
pregnancy, including postpartum depression, ”say
the researchers. – “We did not see a similar picture among married
women who have experienced fewer psychological problems
regardless of the time you live with your
spouses. “

Of the unmarried women who lived with their partners in
less than two years, at least one of the three problems was
peculiar to 20% of women. However, the longer couples lived together, the
there were fewer problems.

For single women who have never been married, this figure
accounted for 35%. Problems were most common among women
who were divorced or lived separately, especially if the couple
broke up less than 12 months before the birth of the child. Here
the figure has risen to 67%.

And only 10.6% of married women with similar
problems.

Why did researchers want to consider the risks and benefits
different types of relationships including civil marriage? The answer is simple –
more children are born to parents who are not between
yourself married. For example, 30% of children born in Canada were
рождены вне marriage, по сравнению с 9% в 1971 году. In a number
European countries, the number of such children even exceeds
the number of children born in wedlock.
